TipList is a city guild building application that allows users look for information about cities and save the information. Information that is saved can be used to create a guide for the city. There are tips, recommendations and suggestions from different parts of the world that can be found and included in the city guide. Saved guides can also have the creator's name, which adds a personal touch to the city guide. With TipList, specific city searches can be made where the user enters a city name in a search box and receives search results containing tiplists from various parts of the world. Mobile applications are also available for this application. Through the application, users can also tweet about TipList or like the application on Facebook.

TipList was created by Brenden Mulligan, who believes in making things simple through a thoughtful process. Apart from TipList, Mulligan has also created ArtistData, PhotoPile, MorningPics and Onesheet. The founder of TipList describes how various apps can become the inspiration for other apps. TipList was developed as an experimental or beta project and hopes to grow in popularity and appeal. By using TipList, there is no need to communicate information about recommendations about any city by phone or email. The creator of TipList wanted to get rid of such emails and created a system where city tips and recommendations could be transfomed into a saved city guide that is based soley on the city guide creator's preferences.

The personal touch that TipList provides by allowing users to actually find and choose the tips makes this application different from other applications that simply present users with city guides that have already been compiled or created. By browsing for information, a user is able to target the specific information that is desired and can also sift through other information that is not relevant or required. The nice and photo-friendly approach to the website design of the application also distinguishes TipList from other applications. However, some cities may have no tips available because none have been supplied by other users.

TipList presents a nice-looking web interface. It is easy to look at and quite inviting. There are no text-heavy screens and there is a simple and direct invitation to login to begin using the application. There is a good spread of sample city guide covers showing a variety of photos and the ability to personalize the cover of the city guide. Good-looking graphics such as beaches and far-away locations are also used on the application's pages. Also, as a person navigates through the application, the images on the pages change and this can be a refreshing feature.

To use TipList, users need to register or sign up. Clicking on the sign up link provides users with an invitation to login with Facebook. Logging in through Facebook is the only way through which sign up can occur. However, potential users can also sign up to be notified when a non-Facebook sign in option becomes available.

There is currently no cost assocaited with using TipList. Users can search for infomation about cities without being asked to pay any fee for the search results. Building a city guide containing information about what a person can do in a city or where to go is free when using the TipList application.

Those who have been to new cities or who are visiting a place for the first time will appreciate the availability of a manual related to the city. TipList provides easy to use city guides that can help make any trip even more enjoyable and take out the confusion that can be associated with being in a new place.
